STREAM Insight is a leading social and market research organization with headquarters in Nigeria and coverage around the African regions. This data collection, research insight and consulting company with over 14 years of research experience is set to commence a monthly webinar series tagged ‘The Social Research Hub’. The maiden edition will take place on Saturday 15th June 2024 between 10:00 and 11:00 hours.
The Social Research Hub is a network of social researchers (professionals, academia, researchers & research users) where researchers share knowledge and ideas on social research matters and opportunities in Africa. The platform is designed for learning, sharing and networking. The Hub caters for early career to established social researchers. This Hub is an initiative of the Department of Social and Development Research at STREAM Insight, a team of some of the industry’s best minds in the field of social research, with diverse disciplines and backgrounds, ranging from public health, sociology and demography, agriculture, education, light and energy, governance and politics, pharmaceuticals, health, hospitality, to mention but a few. The department has carried out several types of social research projects like baseline surveys, midline surveys, endline surveys, impact assessment studies, monitoring and evaluations, needs assessment studies, political studies and opinion polls, public policy research, development research etc. This hub intends to transform the social research industry with robust knowledge and comprehensive insights that will not only renovate the knowledge base of practising social researchers but also pave the way for the upcoming generations of social researchers.
STREAM Insight being a key player in the market research industry, and a foremost player in the social research industry with more than a decade of research and data collection experience across over twenty-five African countries, STREAM Insight has identified the need to further advance social research in Africa. Social research plays a central role in understanding and addressing the complex social challenges faced by African societies. Social researchers provide direction with accurate data and research that help development partners, United Nations agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), government parastatals, private organizations, institutions, and other stakeholders in decision-making and effective implementations of several interventions designed to tackle the social problems in Africa, including developing effective policies for enabling society.
According to the Managing Director of STREAM Insight, Dr. Adewale Opawale, a social research expert with a doctorate in development research and about two decades of experience, “social research is unique in its designs and implementation. It does not follow the same principles as other types of research. Applying the same approach or mixing up the designs of social research with market research will not only deprive stakeholders of getting the needed values but will also lead to errors and poor decision-making. At this point in our industry, it is of high importance to refine social research methodologies and approaches as well as safeguard continuous improvement that will imbibe innovations that effectively navigate the intricacies of contemporary social problems in Africa.”
